James is survived by his wife, Terry Kurata sister, Mitsie Tanaka daughter, Jamie and husband Adam Houston son, Matt and wife Jaime Kurata daughter, Angie and husband Brian Frost and his son, Steve and wife Anita Tucker. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jitsutaro and Kuni Kurata his baby brother, Takashi Kurata sister, Haruyo Koda and his brother-in-laws, Bill Koda and Russ Tanaka. He was a hard working man all of his life, and will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. When not working he enjoyed gardening, taking care and pride in his lawn and golfing. James loved his wife, children and grandchildren. James and Terry then went on to have two more children, Jamie and Matt. He then became father to Terry’s children, Angie and Steve Tucker. Meanwhile he met and married the love of his life, Terry Tucker in 1975. From there he went on to work for the Oregon State Highway Department until he retired in 2000. He was stationed in Alaska and served his country until 1957.Īfter being discharged he returned to Vale, OR and became a bartender at the Golden Slipper where he became known as the “Best Bartender in the Treasure Valley” until 1979. He attended school in Baker, OR, New Plymouth, ID and later graduated from Vale High School in 1951.Īfter high school he helped his brother-in-law farm until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1955. He was born on Novemin Baker, OR to Jitsutaro and Kuni Imoto Kurata. On Sunday, September 22, 2013, James (Jimmy) Minoru Kurata passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
